12-14.02.21 Club Champs

What beautiful days we had for the main sessions of our Club Championships.

This is a brief report with no results except those specifically mentioned as traditionally Club Champs results are not revealed until prize giving.

Session 1: Sprints and 200IM on Friday 12 February

A mild Sou Westerly presented a slight head wind for our swimmers in this session. Even so among the 56 swimmers that raced on Friday we had some great results.

These swimmers made new qualifying times for Auckland Juniors:

Mylan Zhou in 50 breast, Brendan Lian in 50 free (in his very first competition) and Ryan Slater in 50 free.

Another of our newer swimmers came oh so close to qualifying; Oliver Bennett was only 0.50 seconds off in the 50 free.

Congratulations also go to Sophie Walker and Emma Diao who along with Brendan and Oliver plucked up the courage to race for the first time.

Session 2: 100’s plus the 200 free on Sunday morning 14 February.

Sunday morning started with little wind but it was a bit cold until the sun got higher.

54 swimmers turned out for this session, including some who had missed session 1 and others who had swum in session 1 missing due to such draw cards as the Weet-Bix Tryathlon and Chinese New Year.

Two more of our brand-new swimmers chose an even harder debut by racing in this session so well done to Miley Hoo and Riley Wei for being brave enough to front up and swim all required races. Well done you two.

Again 2 of those mentioned above along with 1 other added more Auckland Juniors events:

Mylan Zou in 200 free, Brendan Lian in 100 free and 100 breast and Gariad Chan in 200 IM. A really great result by Brendan who only started with the Junior Squad on the 5th of January.

Overall

To date 70 swimmers have completed events for the Club Champs, but as I alluded to above, some in only 1 of the sessions.

Swimmers if you have not swum any of the Club Champs races please talk to your coach, so these can be made up ASAP. The first priority is to complete the 50m sprints and 200 IM before the outdoor pool closes.

The Club wants the Championships to be all inclusive, so whether you are a competitive swimmer or not we really want you to swim these races.

Results

The results to date have been loaded on the SNZ database and will be available for all meets.

This is the first time we have been signed off as a fully complying meet. Hooray!!

Thanks

Thanks to Brian Tong for once again acting as our referee and to all those parents and others who acted as Timekeepers and IOT’s.

The timekeeping was generally of very high standard but I did pick up a few errors.

Timekeepers in lane 3, in session 1; Lane 2 (Twice) and Lane 4 in session 2 scored identical times on all 3 watches and are owed chocolate fish by Pros Yin. So well done timekeepers.
